Hay is a town in the western Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 720 kilometres southwest of Sydney and 150 kilometres northeast of the city of Griffith.
The town was founded in the 1850s and named after John Hay, a politician and colonial secretary. It is situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River and has a population of around 2,000 people.
Hay is known for its impressive heritage buildings, including the Hay Jail, which was built in the 1870s and is now a museum. The town is also home to a number of natural attractions, such as the Fivebough and Tuckerbil Wetlands, which are popular spots for birdwatching.
