Distinguished and Famous people from Hay
🎨 Ludwig Hirschfeld Mack
Artist and Bauhaus teacher Ludwig Hirschfeld Mack was among the refugees deported from Britain aboard the Dunera in 1940 and interned in Australia. His detention included Hay, where he continued making art under difficult conditions. The National Gallery of Victoria holds his woodcut Hay, dated 1940–41, a direct artistic record of that connection. His later contribution to Australian art education developed after release. Hay’s place in his life belongs to wartime internment and the creative work produced within it.
